Their digital future: skills, confidence
and wellbeing for young women
Pakistan has a population of over 240 million and a very young population. Despite improving economic growth, the country is struggling to create enough jobs to meet the needs of an ever-growing workforce. Young people and women are particularly affected by unemployment and job insecurity.
The situation is further exacerbated by recurring humanitarian crises, notably the floods and climate-related disasters that regularly affect the country. These events deepen poverty and further undermine the resilience of the most vulnerable communities.

Young women face additional barriers: limited access to education, restricted mobility, early marriage, low labour market participation and a lack of female role models. Today, only around 24 per cent of women are part of the country’s workforce.
Our work
Through this project, SOS Children’s Villages Pakistan is supporting 350 young women towards sustainable employment through a comprehensive training programme delivered at 13 sites across the country.
The programme is based on two complementary six-month pathways. The first focuses on developing the professional, digital and entrepreneurial skills sought after in today’s labour market. In particular, participants strengthen their proficiency in digital tools, their financial literacy, their leadership skills and their knowledge of entrepreneurship and self-employment.
The second pathway emphasises personal development and psychosocial wellbeing. Through safe spaces for discussion and tailored support, the young women develop their self-confidence, resilience, interpersonal skills and ability to cope with the challenges of adult and professional life.
This holistic approach enables participants to acquire not only technical skills, but also the autonomy, confidence and support networks essential for securing decent employment and building their long-term economic independence.
Planned activities
The project supports young women through a comprehensive programme that combines:
- the development of life skills, self-confidence and independence;
- preparation for employment (career guidance, CV writing and interview preparation);
- the acquisition of technical and digital skills tailored to the needs of the labour market;
- support in securing work placements, entrepreneurship and employment through mentoring and partnerships with local employers.
Expected results
Thanks to this project, 350 vulnerable young women will be able to:
- improve their employability;
- build their confidence and independence;
- gain access to decent work or an income-generating activity;
- develop their long-term economic independence.
