Empowering children with disabilities
in the municipality of Kageshwori Manohara
Poverty, rapid urbanisation and a lack of inclusive infrastructure continue to exclude many children with disabilities from school and social life. In the municipality of Kageshwori Manohara, at least 66 children with disabilities have been identified amongst the most vulnerable families. Many face difficulties in accessing accessible schools, assistive technology or specialist rehabilitation services.

Families themselves often have limited resources to meet their children’s specific needs. Physical barriers, prejudice and inadequate public services further increase their risk of exclusion.
Our work
In partnership with the municipality of Kageshwori Manohara, SOS Children’s Villages Nepal is implementing a comprehensive approach aimed at promoting the inclusion of children with disabilities and improving their future prospects.
The project supports access to a more inclusive education by providing adapted teaching materials, assistive technology and improvements to facilitate access to classrooms. It also enhances access to healthcare and rehabilitation services, which are essential for the children’s development and independence.
At the same time, families receive practical support through the distribution of hygiene kits and essential equipment. The initiative forms part of a long-term approach that brings together local authorities, schools and community stakeholders to promote a more inclusive society that respects the rights of people with disabilities.

The project aims to:
- provide adapted school materials and technical aids;
