A humanitarian partner of the Sudstroum Escher Kulturlaf for the past four years, SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde was delighted to celebrate with the organisers the 20th edition of this friendly event that brings the Esch-Belval district to life.
Founded in 2007, the Sudstroum Escher Kulturlaf combines sport, music and culture in an original way while showcasing the landmark sites of Luxembourg’s Red Lands capital. This year, the event took place on 5 September. A total of 3,500 runners took part in the various races, joined by 250 children who participated in the Kids Run. This anniversary edition set a new participation record and was marked by a warm and family-friendly atmosphere.

Last October, organisers and beneficiary organisations came together for a convivial cheque presentation ceremony. Sophie Glesener, Director of SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde, and Sonia Dos Santos, Events and Sponsorship Officer, received two cheques for €2,000 and €1,553 respectively. The cheques were presented by Pol Zimmermann, President of Escher Kulturlaf a.s.b.l., and Laure Willière, a member of the event’s organising committee.
The funds raised come from registration fees and donations made by runners. For the second consecutive year, they will support SOS projects in Morocco. This year, the funds will benefit initiatives at the SOS Children’s Village in Agadir, where the refurbishment of a multi-sports court and the construction of a new playground are planned. These facilities will contribute to the physical, social and emotional development of the 116 children living in the village, as well as other children from the surrounding community.
On behalf of the entire SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde team, Sophie Glesener warmly thanked the Escher Kulturlaf organising committee, the runners and the volunteers who supported the association on the day of the event. She also welcomed the opportunity to take part in this cheque presentation ceremony, which was attended by Martin Kox, founder of the Sudstroum Escher Kulturlaf.
The date of the next edition has already been announced. The race will take place on Saturday 4 September 2027. SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde will then be the event’s humanitarian partner for the fifth consecutive year.
