An integrated project strengthening nutrition, resilience and reconciliation in Moyale District

EMERGENCY   |   ETHIOPIA

In the Moyale district, located in the Borena region, our intervention aims to meet the essential needs of communities facing food insecurity, malnutrition, instability, and precarious living conditions.

Designed as a multi-year initiative, this project combines emergency assistance with longer-term support to help communities recover and build resilience. It places a strong emphasis on nutritional interventions targeting children under five, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and households affected by malnutrition.

At the same time, the project integrates sustainable solutions across key sectors such as agriculture, access to water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH), livelihoods, gender equality, protection, and peacebuilding.

In addition, community-based actions will help to strengthen maternal care, support inclusive livelihood opportunities, promote youth empowerment, and reinforce local peace committees—laying the foundation for a more stable and enabling environment for development.

By integrating humanitarian intervention, development programmes and peacebuilding into a single coordinated framework, the project ensures that short-term aid contributes to sustainable recovery and social cohesion rather than creating dependencies.

Ultimately, the project aims to operationalise a ‘triple nexus humanitarian-development-peace’ approach in a practical and scalable manner.

OCTOBER 2025 to SEPTEMBER 2028

  • 332 households with children under 5 suffering from severe acute malnutrition
  • 3,575 pregnant and lactating women (PLWHA) affected by global acute malnutrition
  • Broader actions will reach 12,769 pregnant and lactating women through maternal care and child support services
  • Protection interventions will assist 300 victims of sexual and gender-based violence, 150 persons with disabilities, and 5,550 orphans and vulnerable children
  • Finally, 789 persons will be trained to provide essential services to these vulnerable populations.
