Each year, CASINO 2OOO in Mondorf-les-Bains joins SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde in its traditional #GivingTuesday campaign. For the fourth year running, the company set up the ‘1€ per plate’ solidarity action in November in its Purple Lounge and Les Roses restaurants, while also allowing employees and clients to make donations via the collection points located at the office of Casino 2000 and at restaurant’s reception desks. Following this successful operation, a generous cheque for €4,600 has just been handed over to SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde to support a post-earthquake educational project in Morocco.
The friendly meeting took place on Friday 24 January, International Day of Education, at CASINO 2OOO. Lydia Biringer-Schmitt, Director of Finance & HR, and Anne Leick, Director of Marketing & Sales, welcomed Sophie Glesener, Director of SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde, and Sonia Dos Santos, Events and Sponsorship Officer, and talked about the situation in Morocco sixteen months after the terrible earthquake. The disaster hit the High Atlas region hard, killing more than 2,900 people, injuring 5,500 and affecting at least 100,000 children.
The meeting focused on the project that will benefit from the #GivingTuesday campaign in 2024, which involves building a secondary school for 500 pupils and a boarding school for 50 girls in the town of Aït Ourir. The representatives of the association were able to show the first photos of this major project, which started at the beginning of November near the SOS village of Aït Ourir, nestling at the foot of the Atlas mountains. This post-emergency education project implemented by SOS Children’s Villages in Morocco aims to promote inclusive, quality education and improve access to education for the most vulnerable pupils, especially girls, in this region where the school drop-out rate is high, and even higher after the earthquake.
Lydia Biringer-Schmitt and Anne Leick from CASINO 2OOO present a cheque for €4,600 to Sophie Glesener and Sonia Dos Santos from SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde.
On behalf of the SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde team, we sincerely thank the management and staff of CASINO 2OOO for their long-standing support and unfailing participation in this campaign. #GivingTuesday makes perfect sense in a world increasingly affected by severe crises and huge challenges to protect children and ensure that their rights – including the essential right to education – are respected.
