Humanitarian partner of the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg

The ING Night Marathon Luxembourg will take place on May 11th this year, and we are pleased to announce that SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde is its main humanitarian partner.

This 17th edition of the 42 km race is shaping up to be the biggest sporting event of the year in the Luxembourg capital. Let’s turn this fantastic event into a solidarity challenge by joining forces for vulnerable children!

Running to support the most vulnerable children and families in Ethiopia

This year, all the funds raised during the event will support our emergency response programme in Ethiopia. In the arid Borena zone, located in the Oromiya region, conditions are extreme and pastoral communities are particularly hard hit. Tens of thousands of households have lost their livestock and therefore their source of income, and tens of thousands more are internally displaced and living in camps. Heavy flooding in the spring of 2023 damaged many water points and triggered a cholera epidemic.

Strated in july 2023 with SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia, our project aims at saving the lives of those vulnerable populations who are undernourished as the result of the confounding effect of the conflict, the drought, and the economic hardship post Covid-19.

A long-lasting partnership

Although the 2020 and 2021 editions of the race have been canceled due to the pandemic, we would like to highlight the strong commitment of the organisers of the ING Night Marathon, which has led to a valuable collaboration for vulnerable children around the world.

Erich François, Sophie Glesener, the Mayor of Luxembourg Lydie Polfer and Luxembourg City aldermen Maurice Bauer and Paul Galles during the cheque remittance following the 16. ING Night Marathon Luxembourg at Luxembourg Hôtel de Ville – septembre 2023.

In 2022, a public mobilisation raised funds to provide Venezuelan migrant children in Colombia with decent living conditions and try to reunite them with their families.

In 2023, we were able to raise more than 13,000€ to support children suffering from drought and hunger in Madagascar.

We would like to thank the runners and Erich François, director of Step-by-Step SA, for his renewed trust in our NGO and his commitment to our cause.
