A generous €19,500 donation for vulnerable children in southern Ethiopia

Following its 18th solidarity initiative, organised with Auchan, Nhood Luxembourg and Iko Real Estate from 11 to 27 September in Auchan hypermarkets in Luxembourg, their shopping galleries and Auchan Drive, the management of Auchan Retail Luxembourg has just invited representatives of SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde to the Auchan Cloche d’Or Lifestore to present them with a generous cheque for €19,500€.
The 2025 collection was exceptional, driven as always by the remarkable commitment of the checkout hostesses and hosts in the hypermarkets, true ambassadors of this long-standing initiative towards customers. The campaign was a success, and the generosity was there too.
In just two weeks, €19,500 was collected across the three sites (Kirchberg, Opkorn Differdange and Cloche d’Or), including €1,170 from the sale of solidarity products in the school supplies departments. As in previous years, these funds will be allocated to vulnerable children living in the Borena region in southern Ethiopia. A new project began there this autumn in the Moyale district, located on the border between Ethiopia and Kenya.
This multi-year project aims to improve food and nutritional security and to strengthen the resilience of communities facing food insecurity, malnutrition, instability and precarious living conditions. It adopts an integrated approach combining nutrition, development and peace.
In addition to the actions carried out in the field of nutrition, sustainable solutions are planned in the areas of agriculture, livelihoods and gender equality. More than 300 households with children under five suffering from acute malnutrition, as well as 3,500 pregnant or breastfeeding women, are among the targeted beneficiaries.
The friendly meeting took place on 28 November, attended by Jean-Luc Carré (Commercial Director of Auchan Retail Luxembourg), Matthias Santerre (Deputy Manager of Auchan Kirchberg), the coordinators of the 2025 campaign and checkout staff, as well as Sophie Glesener (Director of SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde) and Anne Schweizer (Partnerships Manager at SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde). The latter emphasised “the vital importance of such projects, supported by Auchan Luxembourg’s annual solidarity initiative, which take a comprehensive approach to support the most vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, whose numbers continue to rise in the face of food crises and poverty, exacerbated by conflicts, climate disasters and forced displacement.”
On behalf of the SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde team, they expressed their gratitude to Auchan Luxembourg—especially the checkout teams—Nhood Luxembourg and Iko Real Estate, the volunteers involved throughout the campaign, and, of course, the customers for their generous support.
