Protecting children and strengthening migrant
communities in Bogotá, Colombia

SUPPORT  |   COLOMBIA

In Bogotá and Soacha, children and adolescents from migrant and refugee families, particularly from Venezuela, face increased risks of violence, exploitation, family separation and social exclusion. Poverty, insecurity and limited access to essential services further increase their vulnerability.

Our work

The Childhood Matters project aims to reduce protection risks affecting children and adolescents by strengthening self-protection skills, promoting positive parenting practices and reinforcing safe, protective community environments.

Planned activities

  • Educational and recreational sessions on children’s rights, risk prevention and protection mechanisms.
  • Workshops for parents and caregivers to promote positive parenting practices.
  • Final support cycle through two Child-Friendly Spaces in Soacha and Ciudad Bolívar.
  • Participatory project closure and documentation of achievements and community good practices.

Expected results

  • 150 children and adolescents strengthen their self-protection skills and ability to prevent protection risks.
  • 26 parents and caregivers improve their knowledge of child protection and positive parenting practices.
  • Community capacities and the achievements of Child-Friendly Spaces are consolidated to support the continuity of protective environments.
  • A gradual and participatory project closure helps preserve and highlight the learning and good practices developed within communities.
