Many have experienced poverty, violence, neglect or family separation before being taken into care by SOS programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SOS Children\u2019s Village in Cape Town, which opened in 1996, is currently home to 86 children across 15 family homes. After nearly thirty years of continuous use, the water and sanitation systems are showing significant signs of deterioration: dilapidated pipes, leaks, drainage problems and repeated blockages are compromising the living conditions of the children and their carers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet access to clean water, safe sanitation facilities and a healthy living environment is essential for the health, protection and development of children.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"678\" src=\"https:\/\/sosve.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Afrique-du-Sud-SOS-Archives-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9843986\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.4992888417882142;width:562px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sosve.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Afrique-du-Sud-SOS-Archives-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sosve.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Afrique-du-Sud-SOS-Archives-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sosve.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Afrique-du-Sud-SOS-Archives-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sosve.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Afrique-du-Sud-SOS-Archives-1536x1017.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sosve.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Afrique-du-Sud-SOS-Archives-2048x1356.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/sosve.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Afrique-du-Sud-SOS-Archives-600x397.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>\u00a9<\/strong> SOS Archives<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our contribution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In partnership with SOS Children\u2019s Villages South Africa, SOS Children\u2019s Villages International is supporting a project to refurbish essential infrastructure at the SOS Children\u2019s Village in Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project will modernise the outdated water and sanitation systems to ensure reliable access to water, improved hygiene conditions and a safer environment for the children and their carers.
