“We are all born free and equal in dignity and rights”, as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted in 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years later, a Human Rights Day was included in the international community’s calendar, and has been celebrated every 10 December since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All”, which raises awareness of the need to respect the inalienable rights and essential freedoms of all people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a time when wars and crises are undermining them, when poverty is gaining ground, when inequalities are increasing, when violence is exacerbated, millions of children, women and men are demanding our utmost attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Whenever and wherever the values of humanity are abandoned, we all run a greater risk”. Yet, “the solutions to today’s most serious crises are rooted in human rights”, the United Nations reminds us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde is naturally associated with this day, as it works for the most vulnerable, especially children, whose voice it intends to strengthen in claiming their rights and ensuring that they are respected.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
