In support of the children and families benefiting from our projects in Benin
This year, the traditional 48th Gala Concert of SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 7:30 PM in the Grand Auditorium of the Philharmonie. The Luxembourg Philharmonic will perform under the baton of young South Korean conductor Hankyeol Yoon. The soloist for the evening will be Ukrainian violinist Dmytro Udovychenko, Grand Prize winner of the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition, who has chosen to perform Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. In the second half of the evening, the orchestra will present the famous Carmen Suites by Georges Bizet.
The concert will benefit Benin through two programs* focused on the rights of children and youth and their employability. These programs, implemented by our sister organization, operate in 18 localities within the communes of Abomey-Calavi and Parakou. They impact 300 families, 1,400 children, 250 youth, 18 Child Protection Committees, 18 Children’s Clubs, and 61 Village Savings and Credit Associations.
SOS Children’s Villages in Benin, established in 1987, supports approximately 5,000 children, youth, and adults on a daily basis. The Secondary School of Arts, located within the SOS Village in Abomey-Calavi, trains future artists. Our organization supports a project there aimed at raising awareness among children and the community about artworks and their proper preservation through the establishment of an art gallery.
